Screen Replacement
My friend broke the screen on her laptop - she dropped it off her bed that is 4' high.
Here's a few images:
I started disassembly:
Here's the hard drive, the back cover, the battery, and the laptop.
The keyboard is held by 3 screws, two under the battery, one next to the hard drive.
The two pieces of the base are held together by about seventy six and a half screws. So by the time you remove them, you've probably thrown the laptop at the wall a few times, but it's okay, the screen was already broken.
Two metal rods hold the screen in place with two screws on each side.
Here is the new screen plugged in, the old screen can be seen in the background.
The screen is screwed back into the rods. The plastic cover is screwed on.
Top part of the base is connected to the bottom part of the base. This connector is for the touchpad. The connector for the keyboard is seperate.
The screen works! Yes! The keyboard connector can be seen in the center of where the keyboard would sit.
It took me a second to figure out why the computer couldn't find an operating system...
In case you didn't realize. It is because the operating system is on the hard drive. Which I plugged in at this point.
As you can see, my
stupid (
she made me erase it I erased it because she's not stupid) friend has Safari. And Norton. What the hell?
The built-in webcam and microphone are attached to the monitor. It is a good idea to check that they are still functional.
[Edit: It is also a good idea to check that the WiFi switch is properly attached, I forgot to do this and had to open the laptop back up.]
Webcam works.
Microphone works.
I am awesome.
